ROCK WOMEN’S TENNIS IN P.S.A.C. SEMIFINALS
Men handed first-round loss
BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s
nationally ranked women’s tennis team advanced to the
semifinal round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference
tournament on Thursday with a 5-0 win over East Stroudsburg
(4-7).
The
win improved the top-seeded Rock’s record to 16-2 as it
prepares to take on fourth-seeded Indiana U. of Pa. (13-3) in a 9
a.m. match on Friday.
The
other semifinal match at 9 a.m. Friday will pit No. 2 Bloomsburg
(12-5) against No. 3 Millersville (11-2).
The
conference championship match will be played at 2 p.m. Friday.
The
Rock, which is ranked 34th in the latest Intercollegiate
Tennis Association Division II national poll and first in the East
Regional poll, is in the semifinal round of the PSAC tournament for
the second successive season.
SRU tied for third
place a year ago.
In men’s
opening-round action, The Rock (5-13) lost a 5-0 opening-round
decision Thursday to Millersville (7-6).
