McCREADY PLACES SECOND AT PENN RELAYS
PHILADELPHIA – Slippery Rock University women’s
javelin thrower Karen McCready (jr., Johnstown/Westmont
Hilltop HS) finished second in the college division at the
Penn Relays on Friday in Philadelphia with a toss of 149 feet, 10
inches.
The Rock sent six
athletes to the Penn Relays with McCready’s performance being
the top one for the team.
Senior hurdler
Linsey Westerman (Freeport/Freeport HS) competed in
the 400-meter hurdles, the 1600-meter relay and the shuttle hurdle
relay. Westerman was clocked in a time of 1:02.39 in the
400-meter hurdles.
The two relay
teams featured Westerman and three freshmen; Jill
Rekich (Butler/Butler HS), Andi Rose (Wheeling Park,
WV) and Melissa Sopher (Harrisville/Slippery Rock
HS). The 1600-meter relay finished in 3:56.18 and the
shuttle hurdle relay finished in 1:01.40.
The men sent
senior pole-vaulter Nick Wilpula (Mercer/Mercer HS)
who was coming off of his record-breaking 17-foot leap at his last
meet. Wilpula finished seventh in the college division,
vaulting 15 feet, 1 inch.
SRU’s next
invitational is Saturday at Baldwin-Wallace in Berea,
Oh.
