This handbook presents course-specific objectives, expectations, and preceptor rating forms.  The rating form can be used as a framework in collecting objective and subjective data about student performance.

You may wish to ask your faculty contact for some examples of outstanding, acceptable, and unacceptable performance in relation to the criteria for the level of student you will precept.  Some preceptors find it helpful to give the faculty member some examples that match expectations for performance of a student at the level of your student.

Two concepts that will prove helpful as guides in evaluation are consistency of student performance and the amount of assistance a student requires to complete an assignment.  You can clarify the expectations for consistency and independent performance with the faculty member.
