Clarify the expectations of the
faculty member at the outset of the practicum. Ask, "What is
my most important role with this student from your
perspective?" The answer will vary depending upon the
student's previous experience and the role that the faculty member
is taking with the particular student. Seek ongoing feedback
from the faculty member. During faculty visits to your
practice setting, share your observations and perceptions of the
student's performance, validate your approaches, and ask for
additional suggestions. Also ask the faculty member for his
or her assessment of the student's needs at this point in the
practicum.
