Dr. Merhaut, Special Education Dr. Balach, Elementary/Early Childhood
Graduate students in Dr. Merhaut's course titled, Lifelong Learning for Persons with Disabilities, submitted a grant proposal and received $100,000 in funding to support the Pine-Richland Youth Center.

The Pine-Richland Youth Center is a non-profit, volunteer-based association serving boys, girls, adults, families and area youth associations in northern Allegheny and southern Butler counties in western Pennsylvania for over 50 years.

This site may be used to assign field students from Slippery Rock University within the Community Program for Americans with Disabilities within the Special Education Department and the Adapted Physical Activity Minor within the Exercise Science Department.

Dr. Balach received funding for a $1.4 million grant to improve teacher quality.

This Title II Teacher Quality Enhancement Recruitment (TQE-R) grant will result in systemic change in the recruitment, retention, teacher education program, classroom practice of K-12 teachers, and induction of novice teachers in central western Pennsylvania.

The grant period begins October 2005 and runs through September 2008.  The grant will address seven broad goals that focus on improved professional development activities.
