SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Second Annual Docs’ Pro-Am
golf tournament will be held Sunday, Oct. 5, at Armco Golf
Club.
The event, which benefits the Slippery Rock University Golf
Scholarship Fund, starts at 11 a.m. with a golf clinic on the range
by golf professionals Jim Cichra and Gordon
Vietmeier, both of whom are SRU graduates.
The tournament will be played using a Team Better Ball score for
each hole (one gross, one net); the low gross ball may not be used
for low net.
Tee time is set for noon, with a steak and spaghetti buffet supper
to follow at approximately 4:30 p.m.
Trophies sponsored by Bayne and Associates will be presented for
Low Gross, Low Net, Low Professional, and Team.
Entry fee is $100 for amateurs, $50 for professionals and returning
former SRU varsity players. Checks should be made payable to
“SRU Golf Scholarship” and sent to Docs’ Pro-Am,
c/o Armco Golf Club, 160 Ralston Road, Slippery Rock, Pa. 16057 or
to Al Schmittlein, 486 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, Pa.,

Professionals and former Rock players attending the event will be
introduced during the post-dinner portion of the event, at which
time current SRU golf coach David Crunkleton will also give
his projection for the 2003-04 season.
Players are encouraged to walk the course, but cart rental is
available for anyone whose health or needs require a cart.
Multiple door prizes will be presented following the dinner, and
prize sponsors will be recognized at that time.
The tournament title recognizes the contributions of three former
coaches -- Dr. Robert Raymond (1970s), Dr. Albert
Schmittlein (1980s) and Dr. William Kirk (1990s) -- and
the members of the teams that won championships.
