SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Kelly Steward and Carli Brunner scored
two goals each to lead visiting Shippensburg University (7-1, 5-1)
to a 7-0 win over Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference women’s field hockey action Saturday at Bob
DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
The game was the first played by The Rock on the newly installed
AstroPlay artificial playing surface. The Rock’s former home,
Patricia Zimmerman Field, had a natural grass playing surface.
The following day, SRU dropped a 3-0 decision at East Stroudsburg
(7-2, 5-2).
The losses dropped The Rock to 1-6 overall, 1-5 in PSAC play.
Shippensburg outshot SRU by a 47-8 margin, while East Stroudsburg
enjoyed a 22-7 advantage in shots taken.
The Rock returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Erie to
take on Mercyhurst in a 4 p.m. game. SRU returns home on Saturday,
Sept. 27, to host PSAC rival Indiana U. of Pa. in a 1 p.m. game on
DiSpirito Field.
