SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Junior forward Sarah Arsenault
(Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and freshman forward
Lauren Steele (Leonardtown, MD/Leonardtown HS) each
recorded a hat trick Wednesday afternoon to lead the nationally
ranked Slippery Rock University women’s soccer team to an
11-2 win over visiting St. Vincent College on James Egli Field.
Steele also recorded a pair of assists.
Freshman midfielder Meghan McGrath (Vernon, NJ/Vernon
HS) added one goal and four assists as the
15th-ranked (NSCAA Division II) Rock improved its
overall record to 5-0-1. St. Vincent fell to 4-4.
Sophomore midfielder Nici Spamer (McMurray/Peters Township
HS) had one goal and one assist for SRU.
Junior midfielder and team captain Jessica Markowski (North
Royalton, OH/Padua Franciscan HS), sophomore forward
Heather McKernan (Bloomingdale, NJ/Butler HS) and
sophomore midfielder Emily Winterich (Brownstown/Conestoga
Valley HS) added one goal each, while sophomore defender
Jen Loftus (Baltimore, MD/Catholic HS) and sophomore
forward Charlene Reynolds (Ennis, Ireland/Colaiste
Muire) had one assist each.
Sophomore Amanda Wier (Bethlehem/Fairfield [Ct.] HS)
and freshman Vanessa Gogates (Lansdale/Methacton HS)
each played one half in goal for The Rock. Each goalie recorded a
pair of saves. Both St/ Vincent goals were scored in the second
half against Gogates.
The Rock, which currently shares the lead in the PSAC standings,
travels to Shippensburg for a 2:30 p.m. conference game on
Saturday.
