CLASSICAL MUSIC OF INDIA SET FOR OCT. 22
AT SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University will join with
national sponsors, including the Center for the Performing Arts of
India and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations to present a
free “Concert of Indian Classical Music” at 7:30 p.m.
Oct. 22.
The
event, set for Swope Recital Hall, will feature internationally
acclaimed Ken Zuckerman, one of the world’s finest sarod
performers. He has studies for 20 years under Guru Ali Akbar Hkhan
and directs the Ali Akbar College of Music in Switzerland and
teaches at the Music Academy of Basel. At the academy, he conducts
courses in both North Indian classical music and music of the
Middle Ages. Also performing will be Anindo Chatterjee recognized
as an outstanding tabla player. He began playing his instrument on
radio at age 5 and has accompanied all of the top musicians,
touring with many around the world. He holds the 1970
President’s Award and was the first tabla player to perform
in the House of Commons. He holds India’s Sangeet Natak
(Music and Dance) Academy Award for 2003.

SRU’s Office of International Initiatives, College of
Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts and University Program
Board.
