Course Requirements:

A minor is a set of courses which is designed to allow a sub-major concentration in an academic discipline or in a specified area within a discipline.  Twenty-one credits are required for a minor in English, with a focus either on literature or on writing. We offer a Minor in Literature, Minor in Writing. and Minor in Film and Media Studies. Minor in Literature (Fall 1998)

12 Hours from among the following:

  • Eng 312 Shakespeare or Eng 389 Stratford Shakespeare
  • Eng 317 British Literature I or Eng 318 British Literature II
  • Eng 319 American Literature I or Eng 320 American Literature II
  • Eng 403, Literary Criticism and Theory

3 Hours from among the following:

  • Eng 242 African-American Literature
  • Eng 243 Literature of the Women's Movement
  • Eng 244 Native American Literature
  • Eng 246 Latino Literature of the U.S.

6 Hours of English Electives taken from other English Department course offerings, excluding English 099, 101, 103, and 210.


Minor in Writing (Fall 1998)

12 hours from among the following:

  • Engl 240 Creative Writing: Fiction
  • Engl 305 Practicum: Teaching of Writing
  • Engl 306 Adv. Technical and Scientific Writing
