The purpose of academic advisement is to help you develop a relationship with your faculty advisor to assist you to meet your academic and professional goals. As your academic advisor, I strongly encourage you to establish regular contact with me throughout your academic career while at SRU and not just during registration periods.

To expand on this statement, I would like to explain how I might be of assistance to you. During registration periods, I can help you with questions about course selection, interpretation of your DARS (Degree Audit Reports), ensuring that you are on track for graduation, etc.

Regardless of whether during the registration periods, or for information related to your academic and/or professional goals, I am here to help you. However, I cannot be of help unless I know that you want the help. So, I strongly encourage you to contact me, if you have not done so already. If you have been in contact with me, I strongly encourage you to maintain that contact.

I am also willing to offer support, direction, help, and guidance upon graduation. I have many former students who still maintain contact. This contact can be an additional help in finding jobs, preparing for promotion within current positions, etc. I always welcome contact from former students.

To maximize your knowledge and understanding of the advisement process, as well as the policies and procedures which will affect you while a student at SRU, I would strongly encourage you to take a few minutes to download and read The Student Advisement Handbook and The Green and White (Student Handbook).

Please keep posted for any new announcement that may affect you as an advisee. Also, please check your SRU mailbox for periodic announcements. As I have already said, you may change your current e-mail to one you usually use. Again, if there are any questions, concerns, or comments, please let me know.

Thanks,

Dr. John A. Bavaro, RN
