A wide
variety of graduate assistantships are available at Slippery Rock
University to provide hands-on professional work experience as well
as financial support to graduate students. Applicants to
graduate programs in the Department of Counseling and Development
(College Student Personnel, Community Counseling, School
Counseling) are invited to apply and interview for graduate
assistantships as part of the program admission process. SRU Grad Studies/Graduate

Assistantship opportunities include, but are not limited

Intercultural Programs, Orientation, Recreation and Intramurals,

Organizations, Student Leadership, Women’s Center
Students
who wish to be considered for a graduate assistantship in the
department must complete a graduate assistantship employment form
and return it to the Office of Graduate Studies. The
Departmental Selection Committee will identify and interview the
best-qualified candidates.
The
criteria utilized in the Department of Counseling and Development
in selecting Graduate Assistants include: undergraduate and/or
graduate scholarship, interest and motivation in pursuing graduate
work in school and/or community counseling or student personnel,
previous experience in working with others, professional work
experience, and financial need.
Individuals who wish to apply for an assistantship within this
department must
1. Be
unconditionally admitted to the Department of Counseling and
Development and have a QPA of 3.0 or better.
2. Complete
graduate assistantship employment form. These are available
in the Graduate Information Rack or will be mailed to you on
request.
3. Be available
to be interviewed by the Departmental Selection
Committee.
4. Maintain a
3.0 QPA in order to maintain the Graduate Assistantship.
Compensation for graduate assistantships include full tuition
and a yearly monetary stipend (currently $3,750). Live-in
Residence Life positions additionally provide free room and board
as well as a $4,000 stipend.
