WASHINGTON, D.C., ALL-MALE DANCE TROUPE
TO PERFORM SATURDAY AT SRU
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University
and its Fredrick Douglas Institute will present the Washington,
D.C.-based, Edgeworks Dance Theater’s performance of
“Fearless Measures” at 6 p.m. Saturday [March 27] in
Miller Auditorium.
The
public is also invited to a pre-concert reception hosted by the SRU
dance department, the President’s Commission on Racial and
Ethnic Diversity and the Fredrick Douglas Institute will be held at
5 p.m. in the lobby of Carruth Rizza Hall.
The
all-male touring contemporary dance company will present its
viscerally charged dance project based on personal experiences,
dialogues on masculinity, current social issues and workings of
human relationships from African-American
perspectives.
The
extensive project features the award-winning choreography of
Artistic Director Helanius J. Wilkins along with the works of
internationally renowned guest choreographers. With gentle
gestures, full-bodied, quick-fire movement, sustained lyrical
dancing, non-traditional partnering and gymnastic physicality the
performance troupe explores the dynamic energetic possibility of
dance.
A
brief question-and-answer discussion will follow the
performance.
