ALUMNI ASSOCIATION TO SEE 130 ALUMNI ON CAMPUS FOR WEEKEND
EVENTS
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – More than 130 Slippery Rock University
graduates begin arriving on campus Friday [June 18] to participate
in the annual Alumni Weekend sponsored by the SRU Alumni
Association which year is spotlighting the reunion classes of 1954,
celebrating its 50th anniversary, and 1979, marking its
25th year.
The
weekend kicks off at noon Friday with the Women’s Athletic
Golf Outing at Pine Grove Golf Course followed by a 5:30 p.m. BBQ
in North Hall for all except those in the class of 1954 who will
meet at 6 p.m. for a celebration at the Grove City County
Club. The Musicians’ Concert Band’s 8 p.m. performance
in Miller Auditorium is sponsored by the association and will be
followed by a reception for returning graduates in Russell Wright
Alumni House.
“This
weekend is always very special,” says Michael Saraka,
director of the Office of Alumni Affairs. “We have the chance
to showcase the campus and our academic programs while allowing our
alumni the chance to see improvements as well as catch up on each
other’s lives. The weekend re-links alumni to our campus and
continues to build ties within our university
family.”
Friday’s
events also include a tour of the downtown to show off
redevelopment progress.
Saturday
open with a 6:30 a.m. sunrise walk on the lower campus followed by
an 8 a.m. continental breakfast in the alumni house. The annual SRU
history presentation will be offered at 9:30 a.m. in North Hall
along with campus tours through 11 a.m. A rock wall climbing lesson
will be offered in the Robert N. Aebersold Student Recreation
Center at 10 a.m. followed by the annual reunion luncheon in the
University Club of North Hall.
Special
Saturday programs for the class of 1979 include 3 p.m. volleyball,
softball and children’s games at the Ski Lodge followed by a
BBQ.
