» Native American Experiences with Brown V. Board of Education Topic at SRU
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Dr. Frederick White, assistant professor of English, and Dr. Rachela Permenter, professor of English, will present “Separate: Unequal: Unwanted: A discussion of how Native American experiences relate to Brown v. Board of Education” as part of Slippery Rock University’s semester-long examination of the landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling outlawing separate but equal schools.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The family of the late Michael J. Changnon, professor of art, and the Slippery Rock University art department and the Slippery Rock University Foundation, Inc., have teamed to offer an eight-print series of black-and-white photographs to expand the Michael J. Changnon Memorial Art Scholarship as part of a special “Images of Light” project.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Warren Davidson, instructor of music at Slippery Rock University, will offer a violin and viola concert at 8 p.m. Oct. 5 in the university’s Swope Recital Hall, including works by Geminiani, Kabalevsky, Schubert, Martucci, Schumann and others.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University will host an evening of traditional Chinese folk music performed by visiting musicians from Nanjing Arts Institute in China at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 14 in Swope Music Hall. Admission is free.

 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Juan Williams, author of the non-fiction bestseller “Eyes on the Prize: America’s Civil Rights Years, 1954-1965” and Fox News Channel  and National Public Radio political commentator, opens Slippery Rock University’s multi-part lecture and discussion series focused on reflections on the 50th anniversary of “Brown v. Board of Education: 50 Years of Progress and Struggle.” The semester-long series opens Sept. 21.

» SRU Trustees Tally a Near-record Student Enrollment
 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Slippery Rock University’s Council of Trustees gathered for its regular quarterly meeting today and reviewed enrollment statistics showing a near record number of students. While the official enrollment number is not tallied until the 15th day of classes (Sept. 21), today’s count showed 7,923, just two shy of the 7,925 headcount in fall 1991, the highest in the history of the university.

Volunteers and participating children at Slippery Rock University's I CARE House will assemble care packages 3:30 p.m. Sept. 8 for members of the 23rd construction battalion of the Navy Reserves. The battalion was recently activated and expects to leave this month for Iraq.
