 Lifeguard Job Description 



I. Job Summary

Protect the safety and well being of each patron using the ARC aquatic facilities. The lifeguard will work directly with participants providing courteous, friendly and professional assistance.

II. Job Relationship
A. Reports to: Campus Recreation Director.
B. Supervised by: Coordinator of Aquatic Operations and Programs.
C. In the absence of professional aquatic personnel, the lifeguard is under the supervision of the head lifeguard. If a head lifeguard is not scheduled, the lifeguard is under the supervision of the Building Supervisor.

III. Responsibilities
A. Insure the safety of patrons using the ARC aquatic facilities.
B. Apply all rules and regulations consistently.
C. Coordinate emergency procedures or provide first aid in emergency situations.
D. Maintain positive relations and rapport with patrons.
E. Perform general maintenance/custodial functions as requested.
F. Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings and in service meetings and in service training.
G. Must complete annual bloodborne pathogen training.
H. Other duties as assigned.

IV. Position Qualifications
A. Must hold current Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Training Certification, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Standard First Aid.
B. Previous lifeguard experience preferred, but not required.

V. General
A. Promote ROCK PRIDE in spirit and in action.
B. Attend mandatory Staff Meetings and Staff Training.

Lifeguards must possess a current lifeguarding certification to qualify for employment.

Mon-Thurs: 6am - 11pm
Fri: 6am - 9pm
Sat: 9am - 9pm
Sun: Noon - 9pm

Play is prohibited at the MAC (McFarland Recreational Sports Complex) when the RED FLAG is flying. The MAC will be closed from December 1-March 1.

When the University is on a 2 hour delay due to weather, the ARC will not open up until 10:00 a.m..
