 Safety Certifications 2013-2014 



General Information
A. Registration deadline is the Thursday before the start of class.  Advanced registration and payment is required. 
B. Age requirement: 15+ unless otherwise noted.
C. All First Aid, CPR/AED, Lifeguard programs are American Red Cross Certified

Combo - Adult/Child/AED/CPR and First Aid Certification:  Prepares students to respond and act in emergency situations involving choking, heart attacks, and non-breathing victims.  Recognize and care for a variety of first aid emergencies, such as burns, cuts, scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck, back injuries and heat/cold emergencies.  Includes instruction and a practical/written test.  Provides participants certification in Adult and Child CPR/AED and First Aid.  Certification is valid for two years.

CPR/AED & First Aid Challenge: Provides individual testing for participants to be re-certified in CPR, CPR-PR/AED and First Aid.  Instructors will not provide review or instruction.  Participants must successfully complete all of the skills tests and pass the written test(s) with a minimum score of 80%.  Participants who fail the challenge will be referred back to the appropriate certification course. Lifeguard Certification: Train and educate individuals to become lifeguards through classroom learning and hands-on practice.  Course elements include water and land rescue skills, First Aid for injuries and sudden illnesses, spinal injury management, swimmer and facility surveillance, CPR and emergency care.  Valid for two years.

Time: 5-8 p.m.

Lifeguard Instructor Training:  (Ages 17+) American Red Cross course is dedicated to developing instructional skills needed to teach basic life guarding.  Must possess current Lifeguard Certification.

Wilderness First Responder Certification Course (WFR):80 hour certifying course offered through SOLO provides back country medical training.
Dates: January 2-9
Days: Friday-Friday
Time: 9 a.m. daily start

Non-Member Fee: $800

Wilderness First Responder Recertification Course (WFR Recert):  Participants must have current or previous certification completed no more than three years prior.  Focuses on scenarios, practical applications and classroom skills.
Dates: January 10-11
Days: Saturday & Sunday
Time: 9 a.m. daily start
Member Fee: $200
Non-Member Fee: $300


All Safety Certification classes follow the American Red Cross certification process and require advanced registration and payment.  Registration can be completed at the Campus Recreation Office, ARC 117.  The registration and payment deadline for all classes is the Thursday prior to the class start date.

Play is prohibited at the MAC (McFarland Recreational Sports Complex) when the RED FLAG is flying. The MAC will be closed from December 1-March 1.

When the University is on a 2 hour delay due to weather, the ARC will not open up until 10:00 a.m..
