 Safety Certifications 2013-2014 

 

SPOTLIGHT

All Safety Certification classes are through the American Red Cross. Registration deadline is the Thursday before the Thursday before the start of class.  Advanced registration and payment is required.  Registrations can be completed at  the Campus Recreation Office, ARC 118. Minimum age is 15 unless otherwise noted.  For recertification programs contact Jim Yeamans, Coordinator of Aquatics and Safety Certifications, at 724.738.4516.

Adult/Child/AED/CPR Certification: 
Prepares students to respond and act in emergency situations involving choking, heart attacks and non-breathing victims. Includes instruction, and a practical/written test.  Certification is valid for two years.
Dates: September 23, October 28, November 25, February 24, March 24, April 21, June 16 (5 p.m.)

Time: 7pm
Member Fee: $60
Non-Member Fee: $70

First Aid Certification:  Participants learn to recognize and care for a variety of first aid emergencies, such as burns, cuts, scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck, back injuries and heat/cold emergencies.. 
Dates: September 16, October 21, November 11, February 17, March 3, April 14, June 23 (5 p.m.)

Non-Member Fee: $70

Challenge Recertification's:
Provides individual testing for participants to be re-certified in CPR, CPR-PR/AED and First Aid.  Instructors will not provide review or instruction.  Participants must successfully complete all of the skills tests and pass the written test(s) with a minimum score of 80%.  Participants who fail the challenge will be referred back to the appropriate course. Both CPR/AED & First Aid offered on all dates listed.

Lifeguard Certification: Train and educate individuals to become lifeguards through classroom learning and hands-on practice.  Course elements include water and land rescue skills, First Aid for injuries and sudden illnesses, spinal injury management, swimmer and facility surveillance, CPR and emergency care.  Valid for two years.

Wilderness First Responder Certification Course (WFR):
80 hour certifying course offered through SOLO provides back country medical training.
Dates: January 3-10
Days: Friday-Friday
Time: 9 a.m. daily start
Member Fee: $600
Non-Member Fee: $800

Wilderness First Responder Recertification Course (WFR Recert):
  Participants must have current or previous certification completed no more than three years prior.  Focuses on scenarios, practical applications and classroom skills.
Dates: January 11-12
Days: Saturday & Sunday
Time: 9 a.m. daily start
Member Fee: $200
Non-Member Fee: $300

Play is prohibited at the MAC (McFarland Recreational Sports Complex) when the RED FLAG is flying. The MAC will be closed from December 1-March 1.
