Checking-inStudents, as you arrive on campus, we recommend the following for a quick and pleasant move-in experience:
Fill out your Student Information form online at MyHousing before August 19th (beginning in July). This will be one less thing you will need to do at check in!
Watch for signs that will direct you to your residence hall. Traffic patterns may be different on move-in day.
When you arrive at your hall, the driver must stay with the vehicle and wait for directions from the WOW (Week of Welcome) Volunteers regarding where to unload and park.
While you are waiting to unload, proceed into your residence hall and check-in. Your residence hall check in will include:
Pay your $20 House Council Activity Fee. This fee funds social events in your Hall
- Receive your room key. Students in all Residence Halls will use their student ID to enter their residence hall room.
Move your items to your new room and get settled into your new home. Your Community Assistant will stop in to introduce theirselves and see if you have any questions. Be sure to do the following:
- Check your room key in all door locks (report problems to residence life staff member)
- Make sure your student ID works in all card readers.
- Set up your computer and make sure you have internet access. Call the HELP desk (724.738.4357) for assistance.
- Complete your Room Condition Report via MyHousing.
- Find the laundry room, your Community Assistant's room, the hall office, information bulletin boards, and hall bathrooms.
- Say hello to your new neighbors and good bye to those who helped you move in.
- Get ready for WOW (Week of Welcome).
By state law, all students residing on campus are required to submit medical verification of a meningitis vaccination or sign a release waiver before moving into their residence hall or apartment. You will receive more information via health services at Slippery Rock University.
Those students requesting an exemption for religious or other reasons must sign the vaccination waiver. If the student is under the age of 18, they must have a parent or guardian also sign.
Required Meningitis Form
House Council Dues
Each building has house council activity fee payable at check-in. Dues have been set by the Association of Residence Hall Students at $20. You must pay the fee to receive your key at check-in. Cash or check only are accepted.
Make it Easy for Yourself
If you live within a two-hour drive of Slippery Rock, you can make move-in day easier by just bringing the essentials including clothes to last two weeks. Some time during those two weeks, you can either pick up the rest of your things on a trip home, or invite your parents to campus to take you out to dinner. By that time, you'll have a good idea of what you really need from home and what can realistically fit into your room.
