A Sin of Omission

The Martha Gault Art Gallery proudly presents, 'A Sin of Omission' with an Opening Reception on Monday, February 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. In Honor of Black History Month, Professor Pierre Bowins presents the Black American diaspora missing in the history of graphic design. In order to open a dialogue for all artists, the exhibition provides enlightenment regarding these designers who have contributed to the field of graphic design yet have been omitted from its history. Professor Bowins writes, “As a practicing Black American graphic designer, I have always felt uncomfortable, as if I never fit in. While attending design conferences, I observed the absence of design professionals that looked like me. My lack of belonging created an urgency to research Black American designers who contributed to the profession. After initial research, I hypothesized this was attributed to the omission of Black American designers canonized in design history.” Martha Gault Art Gallery is all-accessible by entrance on College Drive near Rhoads Hall. Events are free and open to the public.
