Katherine Sherwood’s acclaimed mixed-media paintings gracefully investigate the point at which the essential aspects of art, medicine, and disability intersect. Born in New Orleans, LA, Sherwood received her B.S. at UC Davis and her MFA at the San Francisco Art Institute. She is a professor emerita of UC Berkeley, where she taught since 1989. Sherwood is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts grant (1989), Pollock Krasner Foundation grant (1999), Guggenheim Foundation fellowship (2005-6), Joan Mitchell Foundation grant (2006-7), and a Newhouse Foundation grant (2012). Her work has been exhibited widely in museums and galleries across the United States and Europe. She is represented by Walter Maciel Gallery in Los Angeles, George Adams Gallery in New York and Anglim Trimble Gallery in San Francisco.
