Pūrākau International Poster Project

Martha Gault Art Gallery proudly presents Pūrākau International Poster Project with Myth & Legends Student Collaboration exhibition on view August 23 through September 23. An Artists’ Talk with discussion panel will be offered via Zoom on an evening to be announced.

The exhibition includes colorful, powerful artworks chosen by Professor Heather Hertel, from the Pūrākau International Poster Project started by Xavier Meade in 2010 in Kirikiriroa Hamilton, New Zealand as a Wintec Research initiative. Each artwork is accompanied by the original written texts from the original project in three languages.

The Myth & Legends Student Collaboration is modeled on the Pūrākau International Poster Project. Student. Student artist collaborators include Professor Theresa Antonellis’ Basic Printmaking class and Professor Pierre Bowins’ University of Maryland Eastern Shores, juried by printmaker and educator Mary Tremonte. Student writer collaborators include Dr. Mark O’Connor’s creative non-fiction class, with translations into French, Spanish and Japanese by students of Modern Languages Professors Malick Coly, Gisela Dieter and Yukako Ishimaru.
