Tapping the Invisible: by Michael J. Changnon

The Martha Gault Art Gallery proudly presents Tapping the Invisible: Pastel Drawings and Photographs by Michael J. Changnon. Exhibitions dates are February 21 - March 10, 2022, with a reception Monday, February 28, 2022 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Susan Changnon will present a gallery talk from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Michael John Changnon (1943-2002) was a founding member of the Slippery Rock University Art Department Faculty in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, where he taught photography, painting, and drawing. During his 34-year tenure at SRU, Changnon established the photography program, developed the conference system and assisted in creating the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

Changnon's artwork is in the collections of the Westmoreland Museum of Art, the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, the former Westinghouse Corporation, The Pittsburgh Public Schools, Slippery Rock University, and The Senator John Heinz History Center.

A beloved artist, teacher, and mentor, Michael Changnon passed away February 23, 2002. The legacy of his teaching and inspiration of his artwork continue to this day with a scholarship established at Michael's request, maintained by his family. The Michael J. Changnon Memorial Scholarship in Photography awards annual scholarships to art students.

The Martha Gault Art Gallery is generously sponsored by the Art Department, The College of Liberal Arts and by the Student Government Association. The Martha Gault Art Gallery is in 102 Maltby Center, on 108 Maltby Ave, Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, and is all-accessible by parking and entry on Campus Drive near Rhoads Hall. Hours are Mondays through Thursdays, 11:00 am through 5:00 pm, except for university holidays and closures.
