Program Highlights

Two-week bridge program

  • Bridge program on Slippery Rock University campus will help students from a variety of high school backgrounds and preparation levels successfully transition to a STEM major at Slippery Rock
  • Summer 2024 bridge: August 12-23
  • Move in to your room early, with room and board fully covered during the two-week bridge

Summer research

  • Research with faculty from the Biology, Engineering, Math or Physics departments for one month during your second summer at Slippery Rock
  • Research support includes full room and board for 1 month, a $2500 research stipend, and funding for supplies and travel

Mentoring, activities and more during semester!

Application requirements

  • Available for students admitted to Slippery Rock University, majoring in Biology, Engineering, Math or Physics
  • For US citizens and permanent residents from backgrounds historically underrepresented in STEM (African Americans, Hispanic Americans, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and Native Pacific Islanders)
  • Personal narrative indicating your interest and experience in the STEM field and your career goals (500 words; video personal statements also accepted)
  • Reference from teacher, counselor or Principal
  • Resume (optional)
  • Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis
    • First round decisions will be made for applications received before Jan 22, 2024
    • Second round decisions will be made for applications received before Feb 22, 2024
    • Waitlist decisions will continue for applications received until start of bridge program

About The Program

The Keystone Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) is a National Science Foundation funded program to support historically underrepresented students pursuing a STEM major. LSAMP funding is available for students from the following groups that have been historically underrepresented in STEM fields: African Americans, Hispanic Americans, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and Native Pacific Islanders.

Alliance members in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education are Slippery Rock University, Millersville University, East Stroudsburg University and West Chester University
