Research

The faculty in Department of Computer Science is active in current research projects in computer science, information technology, and related fields. Undergraduate students are frequently recruited to conduct research in undergraduate research lab and artificial intelligence/robotics lab under faculty's supervision. Each year there are students' papers published in international and national conferences.

We look forward to collaborating with faculty and students in other disciplines and participants in external organizations, companies, and communities, as well. If you have any idea or suggestion on research project, please don't hesitate to contact our faculty members.

Developing new methods for building radiation hybrid maps

Students who are interested in this research area should reach out to Dr. Seetan at raed.seetan@sru.edu.

Building Radiation Hybrid maps is a challenging process. Traditional Radiation Hybrid mapping techniques are very time consuming, and do not work well on noisy datasets. In this research area, we aim to develop new approaches that uses unsupervised techniques to filter out unreliable data and reduce the mapping computational complexity, thus speeding up the mapping process.

Factors Affecting the Acceptance and Use of Telehealth Apps: Analysis of Users Reviews using BERT

Dr. Raed Seetan, Tyler Howes

Telehealth mobile apps and telehealth services are increasingly used by patients, particularly, post COVID-19. Telehealth mobile apps are considered critical in providing access to care and promoting care via telehealth services. In this study, we examined factors related to the acceptance and adoptions of these apps and services by analyzing reviews from actual telehealth service users. Using BERT embeddings, UMAP, and HDBSCAN, topics were generated and labeled to identify these factors. Results showed that telehealth app users expressed several factors that could impact the acceptability and adoption of telehealth apps. These include accessibility, usefulness, satisfaction, cost, efficiency, and ease of use.
