Careers

The major in Political Science challenges students to develop critical thinking, writing, speaking and research skills, all of which make them attractive to employers in a variety of fields.  Many of our students go on to work in public service, and work in local, state, and national government offices.  Others choose political careers, including campaigning, political consulting, lobbying, and running for public office.  Many go on to graduate school to pursue more specialized training. Large numbers of our students go on to law school and then practice law in a variety of settings.  Some go on to higher education and end up teaching in secondary and university settings.  Others work in a variety of fields that may be tangentially related to Political Science and that draw on the critical skills that they developed in the major.  Ultimately, national studies show that students who graduate with Political Science Degrees go on to be very successful in their careers, and earn very good livings.
