In the School Counseling program at SRU, students will learn the skills to develop programming and provide counseling services to help students thrive in the PK-12 educational setting.  Graduates of the program will be prepared to address the developmental needs of all students in the areas of academic, career, and social/emotional development.  Students benefit from a diverse consortium of practicum and internship sites in addition to participating in pre-practicum experiences early in the program.

DESCRIPTION

Students in the School Counseling Program will earn a Master of Education degree and will be eligible for certification as a professional school counselor in grades K-12 in Pennsylvania. If students desire to seek credentials as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Pennsylvania, additional courses may be taken. Additionally, graduates of the School Counseling Program have procured positions at the postsecondary level in fields related to disability services, academic advising, and career counseling.

REQUIREMENTS

  • $25 Application Fee
  • A Personal Statement indicating interest in the program, experience, and career goals
  • Two Electronic Recommendation Forms: one from a former or current college or university faculty member with knowledge of the applicant's academic aptitude, suitability for intended program area, and ability to form interpersonal relationships
  • Official undergraduate degree transcript(s) and any graduate transcripts (Official transcripts must be sent by the institution via electronic transcript to graduate.admissions@sru.edu or via mail.  Faxed copies are not considered official)
  • SRU current/Alumni/former students click here to order your official SRU final transcript and have it sent to graduate.admissions@sru.edu
  • A minimum undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 to be considered for unconditional admission

Selected applicants will be invited for an interview. Applications will be taken on a rolling basis. The school counseling program has a fall and spring start dates for new students. A fall start is preferred, but spring starts will also be accommodated.
