The Bachelor of Science Biology - Pre-Health Professions is a biology degree that incorporates the pre-requisites for most health-related graduate programs.  This concentration includes courses in genetics, microbiology, anatomy, physiology, and cell/molecular biology. Graduates of this program will be prepared for entering a variety of health-related careers.

The major in BS Biology: Pre-Health Professions offers rigorous training in both basic and advanced biological concepts, preparing you for advanced training in a healthcare related graduate program.  Students complete the pre-requisites for their graduate programs within their degree and gain the hands-on training to set them up for success in their future careers. Students can complete internships or independent study research projects as upper division credit toward their degree.

What Will You Learn?

The broad-based curriculum gives a firm foundation in principals of biology and hones the quantitative, deductive and inductive reasoning skills you will need in the health care field. Your coursework in anatomy and physiology, genetics, microbiology, and molecular biology will give you the proficiency in the fundamentals of biology.  Students can also select from an exciting set of medically relevant upper-level biology electives such as: endocrinology, pathophysiology, immunology, parasitology, pathogenic microbiology and histology.

Careers In HEALTH PROFESSIONS FOR BIOLOGY MAJORS

The major in in BS Biology: Pre-Health Professions will give you the mastery of biology you will need to continue your education as you train to be a health care professional.  Students interested in becoming physicians (MD/DO), physician assistants, physical therapists, nurses, veterinarians, chiropractors, dentists, and other clinicians often select this major.
