Slippery Rock University's transfer admission process makes it easy to join the SRU family. Whether you're transferring from a community college or four-year institution, our university makes it easy to apply, enroll, and succeed.

The first step towards transferring to SRU is submitting the following items:

Completed application
$30 non-refundable application fee
Official college transcripts from each institution attended (can be sent electronically to transferadmissions@sru.edu or through the mail to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions)
Final high school transcript (only if you will have completed less than 30 credits by the time you begin at SRU)
Copy of valid RN license (RN to BSN applicants only)

If you're asked to submit your midterm grades, please use our Midterm Grade Request form or submit your institution's midterm grade report instead.

When to apply as a transfer student- If you're transferring for the summer or fall semester, you should apply ideally by the end of February, but we process applications through the start of the semester. If you're looking to start in the winter or spring, please apply by the end of September. Please be advised that admission to SRU is on a rolling basis, and our admissions team continues to review new applications after these recommended timelines. However, you should aim to complete the process as soon as possible to ensure the most seamless and stress-free transition.

We recommend you respond with the enrollment deposit within two weeks of your offer of admission.

Additional Information

It is critical that SRU is listed as a recipient on your most recent FAFSA in order for us to provide a preliminary financial aid package. Our federal school code is: 003327. Why FAFSA? The FAFSA form is required to be reviewed for potential merit and need-based transfer scholarships.

Students planning to transfer to SRU must have a minimum of a 2.0 cumulative GPA, 12 attempted college credits from all institutions attended, and must be in good academic standing. If you have attempted less than 12 credits, we may also consider high school performance in determining admission. Some academic majors have specific GPA requirements that are separate from admissions requirements:

3.0 GPA required for Education majors*

* These programs feature a major-conditional offer of admission to SRU, with a 2.0 - 2.99 GPA; major-conditional admission limits coursework in the program of study until the required GPA is earned.

After Your Offer of Admission

Once you receive your official electronic offer notice, it is imperative that you accept your offer and submit the $90 enrollment deposit ($15 for online program students) from inside the application portal. This deposit confirms your commitment to attend SRU. Return to your SRU application portal to accept your offer and submit your enrollment deposit.

Should you be experiencing financial constraints due to COVID-19 and cannot pay the enrollment deposit, please email robert.lagnese@sru.edu.

Once the deposit has been made, we can proceed with the transfer process. These include:

Creation of your SRU email account/login ID, which is emailed to you; activate this account and use it regularly.
An official evaluation and posting of all transfer credits
Eligibility to register for classes
Ability to request on-campus housing (not required or guaranteed for transfer students)

Please email a copy of your current class schedule or complete our Courses In Progress form so that we may include your current classes on your official credit evaluation. This allows for more accurate advising and registration.

Next Steps

Now that you've accepted your offer, an email will be sent to the account associated with your application confirming receipt of your enrollment deposit 24 hours after we process your payment. That message includes your SRU email account/login ID and activation instructions. Be sure to activate your SRU email account immediately and check it regularly; this is the primary mode of contact between SRU and our students. Instructions for activating your SRU email account are included with your deposit confirmation notice, but can also be found in our email activation document.

Why is it important to activate your SRU email?

Once you activate your account, you may submit your housing request (if desired; not required or guaranteed for transfer students).

After your credits are evaluated and posted, you will receive advising and registration instructions just prior to our registration period from transferadmissions@sru.edu. Registration begins in early-April for summer/fall classes, and early-November for winter/spring classes. You are eligible to register for classes even though you may be currently enrolled at another institution. Final transcripts are not required for registration privileges.

At the conclusion of your final semester at your current institution, please provide us with an updated, official transcript. This allows us to award additional transfer credits and finalize your admission file. Failure to submit your final transcript results in a hold placed on your ability to register for future semesters.

Join us for an in-person Orientation event in January or at multiple times throughout the summer prior to the fall term to connect with important resources for your seamless transition to life at SRU.

University bills are issued on a per semester basis according to the following timelines: July (fall), November (winter), December (spring), and May (summer). It is not recommended to delay registration because of billing timelines. Students can select multiple installment plan options each semester.

Watch for an email with your portal link to engage in an online Orientation experience that will provide convenient access to your “next steps” and vital resources about student life and academic services as you make the important transition to campus. This Orientation portal will allow you to begin engaging with the university immediately and as frequently as you want. Your SRU username and password are your log-in credentials.
