New season of ‘Infinite Opportunities’ premieres Jan. 29

HARRISBURG, Pa. - "Infinite Opportunities," a weekly, half-hour, public affairs program featuring Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education universities, will engage viewers in roundtable discussions with faculty, staff, students and alumni during its third season, which premieres at 9:30 a.m., Jan. 29, on the Pennsylvania Cable Network.

The weekly discussions will include a variety of higher education topics, including life as a student; teacher education; opportunities and services for veterans; volunteerism; leadership; performing arts; graduate education; student research; global education; health and science; putting knowledge into practice; and giving. Viewers also will "travel" back to the universities each week to learn more about how they address these topics on campus.

"Each of the 14 State System universities will be represented throughout the season," said Chancellor Frank Brogan, who serves as moderator for the panel discussions. "Every week, we will delve in-depth into a specific topic, then we will visit the various campuses to learn even more about how they are directly serving students and meeting Commonwealth needs. It will be exciting looking into what's really happening on our campuses."

Slippery Rock University will be featured in five episodes, including:

  • Teacher Education (Feb. 5): Focus on doctoral program in special education;
  • Leadership (Feb. 26): Slippery Rock Student Government Association President Logan Steigerwalt will take part in a panel discussion;
  • Student Research (March 19): Focus on faculty/student research partnership into the physical evolution of magma chambers;
  • Health and Science (April 2): Focus on the physician assistant program; and
  • Putting Knowledge into Practice (April 9): Focus on faculty/student research findings that led to "direct to marketplace" implementation

The Jan. 29 premiere episode will focus on life as a student. It will feature a panel discussion among two Shippensburg University students, Ruben Boureau and Angela Mason; and Bloomsburg University Vice President for Student Affairs Dione Summerville. The episode will also include trips to the campuses of Clarion, West Chester and Mansfield universities.

The second episode, which will air Feb. 5, will examine teacher education with panelists Susan Rimby, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Education at Lock Haven University; Charlton Wolfgang, assistant professor of gifted education at Millersville University; and Brooke Keefer, a Millersville University junior majoring in early childhood education.

The remaining topics for season three and the scheduled air dates are: Veterans, Feb. 12; Volunteerism, Feb. 19; Leadership, Feb. 26; Performing Arts, March 5; Graduate Education, March 12; Student Research, March 19; Global Education, March 26; Health & Science, April 2; Knowledge into Practice; April 9; and Giving, April 16. In addition to being aired at 9:30 a.m. on the date listed, each episode will be shown a second time, at 6 p.m., the following Saturday.
