SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Parents of children ages 3-5 are being offered a free movement activities program titled "Moving Concepts," taught by Marybeth Miller, SRU associate professor of physical and health education.

The sessions will be offered from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. each Thursday from Feb. 5-April 21, in SRU's Morrow Field House. There will be no session March 10 because of SRU spring break. Up to 50 children may enroll.

Each session will offer a range of child-centered movement activities important to a young child's development, Miller said.

"This is an inclusive program designed for preschool-age children with and without disabilities that is rich in developmentally appropriate movement experience centered on themes of body awareness, space awareness, effort, relations to others and 'Character Counts' program themes emphasizing the elements of cooperation intertwined with fundamental motor skills," Miller said.

The program aligns with the Pennsylvania Department of Education's Early Learning Standards for Pre-Kindergarten.

SRU teacher candidates in physical and health education, special education, early childhood and elementary education help teach the sessions, gaining hands-on experience.

To enroll a child, call Marybeth Miller at 724.738.2789.
