SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University will offer a "Black Love in the Media" discussion at 6 p.m., Feb. 15, in 320 Smith Student Center. The program is part of SRU's Black History Month.

"Black love is very much a cultural thing. It's very unique and special in the African-American community because real love is very rare to find in the African-American community, which a lot of people don't understand," said DeWayne Anderson, a student affairs in higher education graduate student from Harrisburg who works as a graduate assistant for SRU's multicultural office, which is sponsoring Black History Month.

The general discussion will cover mainstream and social media impressions of black love, with students and staff trading and answering questions.

"There will be specific questions about the social media involvement and other things as well," Anderson said. "Love is the same for everyone, but black love is very special and rare because the chances of finding it in the African-American community are very slim."

SRU's Black History Month program, "Remember and Reclaim," continues through Feb. 28. The program is exploring Civil Rights accomplishments while offering insight into issues still being felt across the country, such as police brutality against blacks, media profiling and economic inequality.
