SRU spring enrollment continues positive gains

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The numbers are in and it's official. Slippery Rock University continues to defy the odds when it comes to enrollment. Despite a decline in the number of college-bound students at colleges and universities across the country, SRU has again bucked the trend.

SRU's 15-day enrollment numbers for the spring 2017 semester boast 8,317 students, an increase of 1.43 percent, when compared to last year's figure of 8,200. Graduate student headcount increased by 83 students (7.62 percent), from 1,089 to 1,172; while undergraduate headcount increased by 34 students (.48 percent), from 7,111 to 7,145. Credit hours generated totaled 112,458 as compared to last year's 110,226, reflecting an increase of 2,232 hours (2.02 percent).

"We are extremely proud that once again our University is one of a few institutions to officially post an enrollment gain for the spring semester," said SRU President Cheryl Norton.

"The University works very hard to make sure we deliver a high-quality education, at an affordable price, and that meets the needs of current and future students and current and future employers. We continue to invest in market-driven programs such as our physician assistant and cyber-security programs, among others. We're also being more responsive to delivering coursework in a variety of formats and venues that meet student needs," she said.
