SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University senior dance concert, "Into Overdrive," will be presented at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., April 22, at Swope Recital Hall.

The concerts are the final project for the senior capstone course taken by nearly two dozen SRU dance majors. Choreography for the concerts will range from dramatic modern dance, to high-energy jazz, to a fusion of styles, including hip-hop. The concert also features a dance titled "an outpouring" by Matt Pardo, a guest choreographer from Pittsburgh.

A majority of the dances that will be performed were inspired by research that was conducted by the students on a variety of topics, including: dance for social change; developing contact improvisation into choreographed partnering; and the integration and appropriation of African and African-American dance.

"My research centered on children and attachment theories in times of war," said Maria Crist, a senior dance and psychology dual major from Buffalo, New York. "My dance illustrates how, during wartime, familiar entities can become completely unfamiliar, and how dance can aid in helping children who are victims of war."

Each of the concerts will feature different choreography and styles of dance.

Tickets for the concerts are priced at: $10 for general admission and $7 for students, children and seniors and can be purchased at the Smith Student Center Information Desk, by calling 724.738.4926 or online at: http://www.sru.edu/studentlife/union/Pages/ticketing.aspx.
