Kaleidoscope offers ‘Anime’BOP!’ chamber ensemble

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - "Anime'BOP!", a Pittsburgh chamber ensemble of double reeds and piano, will perform at 7:30 p.m., April 26, at Slippery Rock University's Swope Music Hall. The ensemble's appearance is part of SRU's two-week Kaleidoscope Arts Festival. The presentation is free.

First introduced through the Pittsburgh Chamber Music Society, the ensemble is working to expose new audiences to ensemble music.

The ensemble includes Linda Morton Fisher on bassoon, Robin Driscoll on oboe and Robert Frankenberry on piano. Fisher is the current principal of the Pittsburgh Opera, Ballet Theatre and Civil Light Opera. Driscoll is principal with the Pittsburgh Ballet and Wheeling Symphony. Driscoll has worked as a tenor, pianist and conductor in Chicago, New York and Pittsburgh.

"Anime'BOP!'s" repertoire includes compositions by G.F. Handel, Francis Poulenc and Andre Previn.

Kaleidoscope, SRU's 15th annual arts festival, runs from April 14-28. This year the festival will feature 28 dance, theatre, music, literary and visual arts events. Children's Day will be offered from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., April 23, at the Robert A. Macoskey Center for Sustainable Systems Education and Research. Programs will include earth-friendly activities.
