Steigerwalt re-elected SGA president

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Logan Steigerwalt, a Slippery Rock University junior marketing major from Northampton, was elected to a second term as president of the Slippery Rock Student Government Association. Steigerwalt defeated challenger Rebecca Sheriff, a junior hospitality major from Friedens, by almost a 2-1 margin. The final count was 966-473 for the incumbent.

Steigerwalt will take the oath of office for a second time April 25.

"I'm very excited about being elected to a second term," said Steigerwalt. "Now we can hit the ground running in the fall since we'll not face a two-month transition period in an administration change over.

"We already have ideas of what we want to do and how to implement them."

Among those ideas, according to Steigerwalt, are:

• SRSGA hosting a Board of Student Government Presidents conference;
• SRSGA hosting a leadership conference for all SRU students;
• A commuter safe house initiative for long-distance commuters to spend the night on campus due to inclement weather, car troubles, etc.; and
• Creation of a strategic communication plan to facilitate better and more beneficial connections between the SRU administration and students.

"I think everything (on the list) is doable," Steigerwalt said. "There's a lot of work to do in order to make it all happen, but we'll start pulling things together over the summer so that we can get right to it in the fall."

Other officers elected were:

• Abby Fugh, a sophomore business management major from Butler, vice president for student and academic affairs;
• Brian Welsh, a junior political science major from Sarver, vice president of financial affairs;
• Sarah Arpino, a junior public relations major from Altoona, vice president of internal affairs; and
• Sammy Hovis, a sophomore communications-integrated marketing major, vice president of campus outreach

Elected to specific senate seats were:

• Meredith Canfield, a junior exercise science major from Anaheim, California, Building A;
• Haylee Zinn, a freshman social work major from Hickory, Building B;
• Dallas Kline, a sophomore sport management major from Spring Grove, Watson Hall;
• Kevin Kite, a freshman biology major from West Middlesex, Building E;
• Morgan Montgomery, a freshman biology major from Youngstown, Ohio, Rhodes Hall; and
• Claudia Hartmann, a sophomore athletic training major from Mayock, North Carolina, ROCK Apartments

Senate positions for Building D and North Hall ended in ties between Brooke Mattocks, a freshman exercise science major from Columbia Cross Roads, and Sydney Cloak, a sophomore criminology-criminal justice major from Worthington; and Emily Anuszek, a sophomore resort, recreation and hospitality major from Tarentum, North Hall, and Leanna Ohora, a freshman exercise science major from Lake Ariel, respectively.

According to Steigerwalt, the individuals in each race will be asked if they want to fill the position. In the event that both individuals want the seat, a runoff vote will be held. A senate seat remains open for building F.

• Nathaniel Henkle, a junior business administration major from Tarentum;
• Erin O'Connor, a junior psychology major from New Castle;
• Scott Vogelgesang, a sophomore business administration major from South Lake Tahoe, California;
• Logan Girton, a sophomore exercise science major from Dover, Delaware;
• Tori Hill, a sophomore psychology major from Homestead;
• Matt Heffelfinger, a sophomore exercise science major from Emmaus;
• Odell Richardson, a junior public health major from Philadelphia;
• Elizabeth Hernandez, a freshman political science major from Grove City;
• Katerina Fissore, a sophomore communications-integrated marketing major from Saxonburg;
• Sophia Sarver;
• Emily Shorr, a sophomore secondary education major from Butler;
• Matt Scott, a junior environmental science major from Greenville;
• John Vineyard, a junior athletic training major from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio;
• Alexandra Foster, a sophomore exercise science major from Goffstown, New Hampshire; and
• Jaclynn Choma, a senior business major from Austintown, Ohio

Dewayne Anderson, a student affairs in higher education graduate student from Harrisburg, will represent graduate students.
