‘Carnival on the Quad’ offers sustainable games, prizes
SRU’s April 19 “Carnival on the Quad” will include a make your own Frisbee event, in addition to a variety of games, food and sustainability education.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University will host a "Carnival on the Quad" April 19. The activity is part of SRU's month-long Earth Days program and will include games, a make your own Frisbee booth, "Bowl Over the Fracking Tower," food and prizes.
The carnival, which promotes sustainability education and personal accountability, will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Quad. The theme is "changing the world starts with you changing your little corner of it."
Those who participate in the games will be eligible for prizes, including an Earth Days T-shirt, an Office of Sustainability water bottle and $25 vouchers from Quaker Steak & Lube and AVI Fresh.
The Frisbee spin allows participants to create a one-of-a kind Frisbee by adding paint to a disc as it spins in a machine.
Campus Greek organizations will build a can castle to illustrate the importance of recycling. AVI Fresh will offer food demonstrations. Representatives from Students for Sustainability and SRU's Sustainable Enterprise Accelerator will be on hand to talk about their sustainability endeavors.
Earth Days includes 10 programs offered by the Community Engagement Subcommittee of the President's Commission on Sustainability, the Office of Sustainability and the Robert A. Macoskey Center for Sustainable Systems Education and Research.
The programs shine the spotlight on climate change, e-waste recycling, clean water and sustainability education for children and adults.
Major Earth Days events include: a keynote address on climate change by Richard Alley, a geology professor at Pennsylvania State University, at 7:30 p.m. April 20, at the Advanced Technology and Science Hall; an April 22-23 community e-waste recycling program at the Stores II facility on Kiester Road; an Earth Days Celebration/Children's Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., April 23, at the Macoskey Center and environmental cleanup opportunities.
New this year is an environmental film festival. "Green Fire" will be shown at 2 p.m., April 21, in 114 Patterson Hall; "In Search of Balance" will be offered at 6 p.m., April 21, in the Eisenberg Auditorium, and "Polyfaces" at 7:30 p.m., April 22, in the Smith Student Center Theater.
