SRU to honor 22 graduate students
Slippery Rock University’s graduate admissions will present 22 students with Outstanding Graduate Student Awards during its May 1 reception.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University's graduate admissions will present 22 graduate students with Outstanding Graduate Student Awards during its May 1 Graduate Admissions Honors Reception in the Russell Wright Alumni House and Conference Center.
Brandi Weber-Mortimer, graduate admissions director, will host the program. Cheryl Norton, president, will offer the welcome. Professors from the various academic departments will present the awards.
The counseling and development awards will go to:
- Melanie Calhoun, a clinical mental health counseling/youth major from Stafford, Virginia;
- Elizabeth Laughlin, a clinical mental health counseling/addiction major from Beaver;
- Lesli Somerset, a student affairs in higher education major from Farrell; and
- Devan Zanaglio, a school counseling major from Houston.
The criminology and criminal justice award will go to:
- Thomas Forrest, a criminal justice major from Slippery Rock.
The elementary education/early childhood education awards will go to:
- Amy Zollner, an elementary education K-12, reading specialist and instructional coaching: literacy endorsement major from Valencia; and
- Keith Gillis, an elementary education K-8 math and science major from Sewickley.
The history department award will go to:
- Nicholas DeWitt, a history major from Washington.
The College of Business award will go to:
- Kelly Kozminski a master of business administration major from Ellwood City.
The nursing department award will go to:
- Kerry Gidley, a nursing major from Maple Glen.
The parks and recreation/environmental education awards will go to:
- Nathan Taxel, a park and resource management major from Rancho Santa Margarita, California; and
- Weston Forsblad, a park and resource management major from Danvill, New Hampshire.
The physical and health education award will go to:
- Amanda Perricone, an adapted physical activity major from Bedminster.
The School of Physical Therapy awards will go to doctor of physical therapy students:
- Carolyn Britton from Meadville;
- Nicole Foster from Altamont, New York;
- Lauren Miller from Yoe; and
- Caroline Schmitt from Morris Plains, New Jersey.
The secondary education/foundations of education award will go to:
- Kalie Comfort, a secondary education/teaching major from Washington.
The special education awards will go to:
- David Furka, a special education birth through grade 9 major from Butler;
- Danielle Dzvonick, a special education autism major from Gibsonia;
- Jessica Hall, a doctoral student from Burton, Ohio; and
- Debra Shank Lehew, a doctoral student from Brackenridge.
