LANCASTER, Pa. - Jon Holtz, Slippery Rock University director of athletic communication, named second vice president of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Sports Information Director's Association.

He will serve as second vice president in 2016-17, first vice president in 2017-18, president in 2018-19 and will close his term with one year on the board as the past president in 2019-20.

"I'm honored to accept this position on the executive board of an organization I truly love," said Holtz. "I credit the beginning of my career to coming to the annual ECAC-SIDA workshop when I was still an undergraduate student and the relationships I have made and the growth our profession has seen over the last 10 years is incredible. I am looking forward to being on the board and helping shape the direction we take over the next four years."

The ECAC-SIDA is open to athletic communication professionals from all divisions along the east coast, from Maine to the Carolinas. All institutions that are members of the ECAC athletic conference automatically gain membership into the organization. One of the primary functions of the executive board is organizing a yearly workshop that is centered on providing professional development.

Holtz has been with SRU since 2009 and has been instrumental in the transformation of the way The Rock distributes sports information and publicizes the accomplishments of student-athletes and coaches.

Holtz is responsible for the creation and implementation of a comprehensive communication plan for all 17 of SRU's Division II athletic teams.

"I have to continually thank our assistant director Tyler McIntosh, who is only an assistant in title," said Holtz. "(McIntosh) is monumental in making our office run and I wouldn't have the time to be involved in an executive level in an organization like this without his efforts. I also want to thank our graduate assistant, Madeline Williams and all of our outstanding student-workers for their support of our office."

Holtz and his staff are responsible for all game programs, live video and audio broadcasts, preview stories, recaps, statistics, historical archives, records and more. The athletic communication office also manages all the social media accounts for the athletic department, which have some of the highest followings among all Division II institutions.

The athletic communication staff has been recognized with multiple national honors over the last two years, including many "best in the nation" awards for publications. The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association also honored Holtz earlier this year as the Division II Excellence in Communications award winner.

Holtz is also in the second year of his term as vice president of the sports information directors of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and will move into a two-year role as president of that organization next May.
