SRU Performing Arts Series announces 2016-17 schedule
Women of the World will open the 2016-17 Slippery Rock University Performing Arts Series Sept. 16.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Music and acrobats will take center stage as part of the 2016-17 Slippery Rock University Performing Arts Series.
"We invite everyone to join us for an exciting and exhilarating series of events that showcase world-class performers, both old and new," said Deb Baker, director of special events. "These incredible performers will engage everyone with their talent, energy and showmanship."
WOMEN OF THE WORLD
Season tickets, which include three main stage shows and choice of one additional show, are $76 for adults; $68 for seniors (62 and older); $60 for youth (17 and younger); and $28 for SRU students. The fifth show may be added for $17.
Women of the World, the 2014 champions of the Harmony Sweepstakes national a cappella competition, will open the series Sept. 16.
Women of the World are a collective of innovative musicians from across the globe. The quartet performs folk and traditional music in 29 of the world's languages, including: English, Japanese, Creole, Hindi, Hebrew, Italian, Spanish and French.
Since their beginnings in 2008, the ensemble has received accolades and collaborated with many renowned musicians, including Grammy Award-winning vocalist Bobby McFerrin, and African vocal icon Angelique Kidjo.
ANNIE MOSES BAND
With performances at the Blue Note Jazz Club, Carnegie Hall, the Boston Symphony Hall, the Berklee BeanTown Jazz Festival and United Nations events, Women of the World continues to spread the message of peace and unity through music.
University Union general admission tickets for the 7:30 p.m. performance are $22 for adults; $20 for seniors (62 and older); $18 for youth (17 and younger); and $8 for SRU students.
The Annie Moses Band will perform at 2 p.m., Oct. 23 in the University Union. Featuring a blend of folk and classical music, the Annie Moses Band combines technical skill with exhilarating showmanship. They have delighted audiences around the world, including in record-breaking numbers of airings on PBS and at Carnegie Hall and the Grand Ole Opry. Tickets are priced at $22 for adults; $20 for seniors (62 and older); $18 for youth (17 and younger); and $8 for SRU students.
GRAVITY
A multi-award winning and critically acclaimed acrobatics ensemble from Australia, Gravity and Other Myths, creates their work with an emphasis on an honest approach to performance, moving away from traditional circus and theatre models toward a form of acrobatic physical theatre. Arts and culture magazine TV Bomb describes a GOM performance as "daredevil feats with the confetti and sequins stripped away leaving nothing in their place but sheer talent and truly astonishing skill." Tickets for the 7:30 p.m., Nov. 10 performance in the Smith Student Center are priced at: $20 for adults; $18 for seniors (62 and older); $16 for youth (17 and younger); and $8 for SRU students.
COLEY
Best known as half of the Grammy-nominated duo England Dan and John Ford Coley - who posted six Top 40 singles between 1976 and 1979 - Coley is now playing classic hits and new music in a solo show that is described as nostalgic and uplifting. With multiple double platinum and gold records to his credit, Coley will perform hit songs including: "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight," "Nights Are Forever Without You," and "Love Is the Answer" at his 7:30 p.m., Feb. 3 show in the University Union. Tickets are priced at: $20 for adults; $18 for seniors (62 and older); $16 for youth (17 and younger); and $8 for SRU students.
BERTING BRETT WITH BAND
The series will wrap up with a 7:30 p.m., March 31 performance in the University Union from We've Only Just Begun: Carpenters Remembered. Led by Michelle Berting Brett, WOJB re-creates the original sound of the Carpenters, one of the most successful and beloved recording acts of all time. Tickets are priced at: $22 for adults; $20 for seniors (62 and older); $18 for youth (17 and younger); and $8 for SRU students.
AVI Fresh will offer food and beverages in the University Union Lobby one hour prior to show time for all campus performances. Boozel Dining Hall, located just north of the University Union, will be open offering buffet-like food service for $7.40 with an event ticket. Performances offering café-seating will include a la cart food and beverage service available through intermission.
Lastly, the Performing Arts Series will be teaming up with the Office of Alumni Engagement to offer a pair of non-series day excursions.
A coach bus will depart from the Alumni House parking lot at 10:45 a.m., Oct. 16 for a trip to the Hofbrauhaus Restaurant, Carnegie Museum of Art and Heinz Chapel for a "Celebration of Art and Architecture in Pittsburgh." The bus will depart for its return trip to SRU at 5:15 p.m.
Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy authentic German cuisine and music as well as a docent tour at the museum and chance to hear the amazing organ housed at the chapel.
Tickets are $45 per person with lunch, tours and transportation included; $30 per person with lunch and tours only.
An April 23 "Erie Food and Heritage Tour" will offer participants the chance to learn the history and cultures of Erie's downtown area while enjoying delicious food from five locally owned restaurants, bakeries and specialty shops. The excursion also includes a visit to the Tom Ridge Environmental Center and a drive around Presque Isle.
A $45 ticket includes: food, historical tours and coach transportation; $30 tickets include tours only. The bus will depart SRU's Alumni House at 10:15 a.m. and depart Erie at 5:15 p.m.
