SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University has been included in the 2017 edition of "Creative Colleges," a resource book for college-bound students pursuing a degree in the creative arts.

"Creative Colleges" balances nurturing students' passions with providing practical college advice and what it takes to build a career as an artist. The comprehensive guide features "the best arts colleges and programs in the country" alongside tips and advice from students who've "been there, done that" according to netgalley.com.

SRU and other universities featured in the book were selected based on the strength and diversity of the creative programs offered at each institution, including departments such as acting, art and design, dancing, music and writing.

SRU's art department met the qualifications for a "Creative College" with its accreditation by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design and its expansive and stimulating program that provides tracks in areas including: fine arts, graphic design, art for education majors, dance, music, theatre and creative writing.

The publication also offers recommendations from professionals and admissions directors along with suggestions on auditioning, preparing portfolios, presenting artist statements, admissions essays and artistic resumes.
