INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA has announced that Slippery Rock University's homecoming football game against rival Indiana University at 2 p.m., Oct. 14 will stream nationally on ESPN3 and the ESPN app as part of the NCAA Division II Football Showcase.

This marks the second time in the last three years that SRU has been chosen as a host site for one of the NCAA Football Showcase games.

"We're looking forward to being able to show off our incredible homecoming atmosphere to a national audience this year," said Shawn Lutz, head football coach. "Our homecoming crowds are some of the best in Division II, so being able to have ESPN3 coverage for that game is really special and something our players are looking forward to."

The 2017 meeting between the two teams will mark the first time SRU has hosted its biggest rival on homecoming since 1994. The Rock have won five of the last eight meetings in the series and have won the last four home games in the series. The last IUP win at SRU came in 2007.

SRU is coming off a 7-4 record in 2016 as the team failed to reach the NCAA playoffs for the first time in four years. IUP, ranked fifth in the Lindy's Sports Division II preseason national poll, posted a 10-2 record last year and reached the second round of the NCAA playoffs before bowing out to Pennsylvania State Athletics Conference rival, California University.

SRU will open the 2017 season Sept. 2 at Kentucky State University.
