SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Here's some social media news that is surely worth a RT or DM to all members of the Rock Nation - Slippery Rock University has launched two new official Twitter feeds.

SRU President Cheryl Norton jumped into the social media pool today with her own Twitter feed, www.twitter.com/@SRUPresident.

"Joining Twitter is an easy way for me to connect with all of our constituencies - students, faculty, staff and alumni," said Norton. "That being said, I'm especially interested in connecting with students and it's clear that in order to do that, one has to be on social media these days.

"What I like most about Twitter is that it provides a rapid and efficient way to communicate with a lot of people - simultaneously - no matter where they are. Although I'm just learning the ins-and-out of Twitter, I'm looking forward to tweeting with the Rock Nation."

The second new feed, www.twitter.com/@SRUofPA, which will be overseen by the University's Office of Communication and Public Affairs, will be used as a

way to disseminate news and information about SRU to its community, constituents and the world. The feed will also provide followers with information about upcoming events or announcements as well as content important to local media outlets.

"We're always looking for different ways to communicate and reach our audiences," said Rita Abent, executive director for communication and public affairs. "While Twitter is certainly not new, this new feed provides yet another way for the public and media to follow what is going on at SRU.

"Doing this allows us to get our news out to those that may not regularly monitor the SRU website or Facebook, but do take advantage of Twitter. There are many social media options available and we want to make sure we're doing all we can to keep people informed."
