SRU named one of nation’s greenest colleges by Princeton Review

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Princeton Review has included Slippery Rock University in its 2016 "Guide to 353 Green Colleges."

SRU was one of 2,000 college and universities from across the country invited to submit their sustainability credentials for consideration.

Several years ago, The Princeton Review began to recognize a growing number of student-driven and school-based initiatives on campuses around environmental issues and sustainable practices. It then added a question to its annual "College Hopes & Worries Survey," asking college applicants how information about a college's demonstrated commitment to the environment would impact their decision to apply to or attend the school.

Based on an overwhelming response, the company developed its "Green Rating" for schools, working with a panel of experts on higher education sustainability practices to develop a survey for school administrators covering three key factors, including:

• Whether students have a quality of life on campus that is both healthy and sustainable;
• How well a school is preparing students for employment in an increasingly green economy; and
• How environmentally responsible a school's policies are.

The 353 schools profiled in the 2016 guide are those with the highest Green Ratings, featuring green initiatives that enhance students' academic experience and quality of life in ways that truly merit recognition.
