SRU trustees to meet Sept. 20-21

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University's council of trustees will meet Sept. 20-21. Committee meetings will take place Sept. 20 in Room 320 of the Smith Student Center. The Governance Committee meeting will take place at 10 a.m., Sept. 21 in Room 320 of the Smith Student Center; and the quarterly business meeting will take place at 11 a.m., Sept. 21 in the Smith Student Center Theatre. All meetings are open to the public.

The Academic and Student Affairs Committee will meet at 1:15 p.m., Sept. 20 to hear two academic program proposals. These include a Master of Accountancy and a Master of Social Work. Both programs will be seeking approval by the Council for advancement to the State System's Office of the Chancellor. Also on the agenda is an update on enrollment and a presentation on the performance of newer academic programs.

The Finance Committee will meet at 2:15 p.m., Sept. 20 to receive a report on the University's budget and an update on parking at SRU's Harrisville Building. The committee also will review contracts, fixed assets and service and supply purchase orders; the quarterly financial report; a review of the facilities and planning project list; and personnel appointments.

The University Advancement Committee will meet at 3:15 p.m., Sept. 20 to receive a status report from Amir Mohammadi, interim vice president for advancement, regarding the Gail Rose Lodge and the President's Tent; and an overview of advancement and foundation operations.

The Governance Committee will meet at 10 a.m., Sept. 21 to certify the University's order of succession plan for presentation to the State System board of governors; approve payment of dues for membership in the Pennsylvania Association of Councils of Trustees; and a discussion on the role and responsibilities of a trustee.

At the quarterly business meeting at 11 a.m., Jeff Smith, chair of the Council, will present the University with its 2018 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the highest U.S. government honor to employers for support of National Guard and Reserve employees. Nominations for the award must come from a military member employed by the recognized business or organization. Gary Clark, an SRU assistant professor of physical and health education and an Army Reserve member, nominated the University which was one of only 15 recipients.

Trustees will also present commendations to Courtney McQuaide, a health informatics graduate student from Saltsburg, who earned first team All-America honors and won the NCAA Division II Track and Field national title in pole vault; and to SRU's women's field hockey team which claimed its seventh consecutive team GPA award from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The Rock field hockey program concluded the 2017-18 season with a team GPA of 3.658, recording the highest GPA among any field hockey team in all of NCAA Division II for the season. The honor marked the fifth time that SRU had recorded the nation's top GPA under head coach Julie Swiney.

The Council will also hear the President's Report and receive reports from its standing committees. Action items include the approval of the meeting agenda for the Sept. 21 meeting and minutes from the June 8 quarterly business meeting; and those items forwarded by the committees for action by the full council.
