SRU Performing Arts Series continues with Annie Moses Band
The Annie Moses Band will play Slippery Rock University’s University Union at 2 p.m., Oct. 23.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Featuring a blend of folk and classical music, the Annie Moses Band combines technical skill with exhilarating showmanship. Having already delighted audiences around the world - including stops at Carnegie Hall and the Grand Ole Opry - the group will perform at 2 p.m., Oct. 23 in the University Union. The performance is part of the 2016-17 Slippery Rock University Performing Arts Series.
Named for their great grandmother, the band launched in 2001 with lead singer and violinist Annie Wolaver and her siblings: Alex, a viola player, and Ben, a cellist. Juilliard-educated, the trio united with a rhythm section led by their father, award-winning composer/arranger/pianist Bill Wolaver, and began touring the United States. Since that time, the band has expanded its lineup to include other members of the Wolaver family: Camille on harp and B3; Gretchen on violin, mandolin and guitar; and Jeremiah on electric guitar.
Throughout the last decade, the group has recorded 12 albums, released five live performance DVDs and performed at hundreds of venues across the country. The band's 2009 PBS special, "Christmas with The Annie Moses Band" logged over 1,200 hours of airtime.
Family matriarch, Robin Wolaver, released a memoir in September 2013 entitled "The Song of Annie Moses" which tells the story of the group's namesake and the generations that followed her from the cotton patches of a Depression-era Texas to the halls of The Juilliard School. The book hit No. 1 on Barnes & Noble.com the day of its release.
The band is currently touring music from their newest album, "The Art of the Love Song." The album is described as having "old-school elegance in the mold of Grace Kelly and Cary Grant." The band took pulled repertoire from the Great American Songbook of the '40s and '50s, then borrowed from such soulful folk/rock songwriters of the '60s and '70s including: Don McLean, Paul Williams and John Lennon.
