Nov. 3, 2016
EISENREICH
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Often described as "the music of friends" because of its intimate nature and small, ensemble approach, chamber music has entertained everyday listeners as well as royalty for more than 200 years.
Two Slippery Rock University music instructors and a professor emeritus of music will demonstrate their knowledge of the genre at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 17 at Swope Music Hall when they present "Chamber Music Mayhem." The event is free and open to the public.
KISER
The concert will feature Cassandra Eisenreich, instructor of music, on flute; Candice Kiser, instructor of music, on clarinet; and Nanette Kaplan Solomon, professor emeritus of music, on piano.
According to Eisenreich, the trio will perform music written by modern composers Daniel Dorff, Gordon Lewin, Ernest Bloch, Jacques Ibert and John Rutter as well as from G.P. Telemann, a 17th century German composer.
SOLOMON
In addition to her role heading SRU's flute program and flute ensemble, Eisenreich has been active in offering music education to underserved children. Locally, she volunteers as the director for the SRU Early Childhood Music Community Engagement Initiative. The program is held in collaboration with the Butler County Children's Center. Eisenreich is also affiliated with the "Harmony Project," a Los Angeles non-profit organization that promotes music education for youth in low-income communities, offering free performances and workshops.
Eisenreich's performing credits include appearances with George Benson, Michael Feinstein, Dee Dee Bridgewater, the Florida Grand Opera, Florida Sunshine Pops and Pittsburgh Symphony.
Kiser, a member of the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra and the Roanoke Chamber Orchestra, has also performed with the Louisiana Philharmonic and the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra.
Solomon coordinated the piano program while teaching music history during her 37 years at SRU. She is a founding member of the Slippery Rock Piano Trio and has performed and presented lecture-recitals throughout the U.S., Europe and South America.
