"Having our program earn such a lofty ranking is a credit to our faculty who are incredibly student-focused and comfortable in their role in helping our students realize their respective responsibilities as citizen scientists," said Jerry Chmielewski, dean of the College of Health, Environment and Science.

“We’re always happy to receive recognition for the hard work we’ve done to engage our students who are passionate about learning about Earth, and to give them the most up-to-date skills they’ll need when they graduate from the University,” said Stentor Danielson, associate professor of geography, geology and the environment and chair of the geography department.

Four of the top five schools in the rankings were from Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education as SRU was joined by sister institutions Bloomsburg (No. 2), Millersville (No. 4) and Shippensburg (No. 5).
