Physician general cancels Nov. 14 SRU visit

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Rachel Levine, Pennsylvania's acting secretary of health and physician general, has canceled her Nov. 14 speaking engagement at Slippery Rock University due to unforeseen circumstances.

Levine, the highest ranking official in state government who is openly transgender, was scheduled to present a keynote address to the campus community and meet with student organizations and University employees later in day.

The planned keynote address, "Coming Out in PA: Understanding and Advocating for LGBTQIA Equality," was to focus on nondiscrimination legislation specific to Pennsylvania laws. Levine was also scheduled to talk to LGBTQIA students about issues they face, such as getting their names changed.

The Nov. 14 appearance would have been Levine's second time interacting with SRU students, having spoken to an LGBTQIA group of graduating seniors via teleconference last spring.
