SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - On the strength of its fall 2016 undergraduate enrollment of 7,664, Slippery Rock University has been ranked third among the Top Colleges and Universities by the Pittsburgh Business Times.

The University of Pittsburgh ranked first with 18,163, while Indiana University of Pennsylvania was second with 9,819. This is the second year in a row that SRU has captured the No. 3 slot.

The ranking continues to recognize a record-setting year for enrollment at SRU, which announced the largest enrollment in the institution's 127-year history - 8,881 students - in September.

That figure was an increase of 2.98 percent from 2015 and included a graduate student enrollment that was up 16.46 percent according to the University's official 15th-day-of classes report.

In addition, new freshman enrollment was up by 40 students to 1,564, narrowly missing SRU's institutional record of 1,586 from 2014. SRU's incoming freshman class has seen increases in students ranked in the top 25 percent of their graduating class (36.4 percent compared to 35.3 percent); overall GPA (3.39/3.30); and GPA of 3.0+ (81.8 percent/80.7 percent).
