SRU wishes ‘bonne chance’ to graduating international students

Students representing 13 foreign countries will take part in Slippery Rock University’s 2nd Annual Global Graduation Ceremony, Dec. 14, in the Smith Student Center Ballroom.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Whether spoken in English, French, Spanish or another language, Slippery Rock University will be wishing "good luck" to its graduating international students at its 2nd Annual Global Graduation Ceremony at 6 p.m., Dec. 14.

The ceremony, sponsored by SRU's Office of Global Engagement, will take place in the Smith Student Center Ballroom and also honor international exchange students who will be returning home and graduating American students who took advantage of SRU's international study abroad program.

Students will receive stoles representing their home or visited countries, lapel pins and be honored with a video tribute.

Aksel Casson, assistant professor of interdisciplinary studies, will provide comments.

"This ceremony recognizes the significant contributions made by our students in regards to globalization and transformational experiences," said Noora Alie international student adviser for the Office of Global Engagement. "It represents this institution's commitment to internationalizing our campus and the importance of supporting international and global education."

The ceremony will recognize five international students who are graduating, 13 international exchange students who will be returning home and five American students who participated in a long-term student abroad program.

Countries that will be represented at the ceremony by international graduates include: China, Sri Lanka, Congo and Bangladesh.

Departing exchange students hail from: China, Slovakia, Mexico, Belgium, South Korea, Hungary and Iceland.

U.S.-based study abroad students conducted studies in: France, Australia and Spain.
